Junyu Wang
A young double bass player and member of the Communist Party of China. He is currently a performer with the Jilin Symphony Orchestra, a guest professor at the School of Music of Northeast Normal University, a guest professor at the School of Music of Changchun University, a member of the China Double Bass Association, Deputy Secretary-General of the Jilin Province String Association, conductor of the String Orchestra at the First Affiliated Primary School of Northeast Normal University, and recognized as a Category D High-Level Talent in Jilin Province.
Artistic Achievements
Professor Junyu Wang has dedicated his life to the performance, creation, and academic research of the double bass. He successfully held solo double bass recitals in 2006, 2019, and 2024, earning high acclaim for his exceptional musicality. He was also invited by the China Cultural Information Association’s Quality Culture Committee to participate in the national key research project “The Role Transformation of String Performance in Symphony and Opera”, for which he received a First-Class Research Achievement Award. In 2022, he was recognized as a Category D High-Level Talent by the Jilin Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security.
For many years, Professor Junyu Wang has devoted himself to the education of young double bass students. In 2006, he established the Junyu Double Bass Art Center, the only specialized double bass art institution in Jilin Province. Over the years, he has nurtured and sent outstanding talents to numerous prestigious arts and music institutions, including the China Conservatory of Music, Shanghai Conservatory of Music, Xinghai Conservatory of Music, Xi’an Conservatory of Music, Wuhan Conservatory of Music, Shenyang Conservatory of Music, Northeast Normal University, Jilin University, Zhengzhou University, and Jilin Academy of Arts.
In addition, Professor Wang has served as a judge in many prestigious professional competitions across China, including the Tang Yun Jiahua Double Bass Arts Festival, the Zhejiang Conservatory of Music Double Bass Summer Camp, and the Central Conservatory of Music Showcase, earning an authoritative reputation in the field.
To further promote double bass art, he founded the Bass.W Double Bass Ensemble in 2024. The ensemble consists of undergraduate and graduate students majoring in double bass from Northeast Normal University, Jilin University, Jilin Academy of Arts, and Changchun University. The group has held numerous double bass concerts, blending Western classical music with traditional Chinese music. Through their deep yet gentle and unique tone, they vividly showcase the charm of the double bass and are pioneering a new era for the instrument on stage.
